This month has seen the opening of most of the buvettes that spring up at various points along the lake. Here are some of the En Bref favourites:
Buvette De Port-Choiseul, Chemin du Vieux-Post 20,1290 Versoix
Open daily from April to October
A well-established buvette found right on the ‘boardwalk’ at Versoix’s Port-Choiseul. Specialising in bagels, salads, home made dhal, fresh smoothies and great desserts. Perfect for morning coffee, lunch and apéros. Once the summer really heats up, look out for their grills on Thursday evenings and music on Fridays.
Buvette des Rocailles, Chemin des Bernodes, 1296 Coppet
Open 7/7 from 1000 -2200 (although like most of the small lakeside buvettes weather dependent)
Fish and chips by the lake from a van – what could be better! Fish from the lake and a selection of fresh salads. Very child friendly and there is a large grassy area and play park. Parking is across the other side of Route Suisse past the traffic lights.
La Belle Celignote, Plage de Celigny, Celigny
Photo : Facebook La Belle Celignote
Open 7/7 from 0900-2230
This is the second year of opening for this great buvette directly on the plage at Celigny. The owners take great pride in serving up dishes with as local produce as possible. Menu includes bruschetta, sandwiches, hotdogs and salads. They also serve breakfast and well worth an evening visit for cocktails.
La Buvette du Port de Crans, Route de Suisse , Crans
Open everyday except Monday from 0800-2300
A lively restaurant with a beautiful setting overlooking the Port at Crans. Varied menu with the speciality being filets de Perche. Child friendly with plenty of green space for the children and a play park.
Restaurant de la Plage, Route de Geneve, Nyon
The restaurant is under new management this year, with Tom Watson, of the upmarket Café du Marché, in Nyon, now at the helm. The menu covers the usual range of tartares, burgers, fish, etc, at fairly reasonable prices. Early feedback is that the food is good, but that the service is ‘settling-in’. Also, beware that their opening hours are currently not as advertised outside. It’s a great location, with a bar upstairs, a cosy interior with log fire, and a jetty at which to moor your yacht! It’s advisable to book a table if sun is forecast.
Restaurant La Nautique, Quai Louis Bonnard, Nyon
Open daily from 9.15am
Lovely location, overlooking Nyon harbour. Reasonably priced menu, with some slightly more interesting options than one usually finds along La Côte.
La Jetée Bar Lounge, Rue de Rive 3 Place de la Grande Jetée, Nyon
Open daily from 1400
Cool spot with beach bar vibe. Very popular for drinks and snacks on sunny days.
(Note, at time of publication, public area in front of bar is being revamped, so view marred by diggers, etc.)
Beach Bar, Hotel La Barcarolle, Prangins
Open from 1600-2100 (weekdays) and 1200-2100 (weekends)
A less well-known but very scenic spot for drinks and snacks.
La Buvette, Route de Promenthoux, Prangins
Open daily from 0900-2300
This Buvette has been revamped and updated for the new season and is now being run by the former chef at Chateau Prangin Cafe. The setting is a private beach, so there is an entry fee up to 18:00. This is one of the few plages along La Côte to catch the evening sun, since it faces west – so a good spot for a sun-downer.
A few other favourites include
