“La Fête des Vignerons”, The event not to be missed this summer!

Posted by

Like me, you may have heard about “La Fête des Vignerons », this celebration that happens only once a generation. And, lucky us, it is this summer from July 18th to August 11th. Intrigued I did some research and went a couple of days ago to Vevey to have a sneak peek at the preparation of this unique event.

Not only has Vevey got a charming old city center, with an extraordinary view of Lac Léman, but it is situated in the middle of the Lavaux vineyards, a fact of which Vevey’s “La Confrérie des Vignerons” is very proud……. So proud that every 20 years or so they organise this incredible celebration “La Fête des Vignerons”. And if the Lavaux vineyards are listed as a UNESCO World-Heritage Site, “La Fête des Vignerons” is the first living tradition of Switzerland to have UNESCO recognition.

What’s happening during this 23 day Festival ?

Many things that you don’t want to miss!

Every day a huge show will be presented in the arena, built for the occasion on the Market Place of Vevey. With the spectacle, you are going to experience a year of work in the vineyards with a different chapter every day.  Tribute to winemakers’ work and their social life, also locating man in nature and its connection with (seasons, water, sun, moon, cosmos…). Very exciting programme!

But the show won’t be only in the arena, all the city celebrates. Processions, musical and cultural animations, farm with real animals for the children (although not only!), night parades, special exhibitions in 4 museums…

For the first time, the “Journées Cantonales “ will honor all the cantons of the country, with a special day on National Day, August 1st.

The programme of animations will be released on June 15th (look on Fête des Vignerons website).

Lets not forget an essential condiment to any party:  Food and Drinks!

Don’t miss a visit to one of the “Caveaux” for a wine tasting, a must for a complete experience of “La fête des Vignerons”.
